Mayer Sings the Blues
JOHN MAYER played a surprise, instantly sold-out midnight show at Los Angeles' Viper Room last night, knocking out jams of JIMI HENDRIX's "Axis Bold As Love" and "The Wind Cries Mary," and even MICHAEL JACKSON's "Wanna Be Starting Something." ZZ TOP guitarist BILLY GIBBONS was moved to jump onstage and shout, "Give it up for my boy!" Mayer replied, "I don't know what the hell is going on. Hello, Mr. Gibbons." The singer-guitarist played until 1:30. "I know I have the best fans in the world," he said, "because they let me play whatever I want whenever I want."Now let's see if John can do something like that at his next St. Louis show.
